Just really, really believe in what you're trying to do. Don't let people alter that. Let people advise you and lead you down paths to make smart decisions. But trust your instinct and trust that overwhelming drive that made you put all your dreams and everything on the line.-Luke Bryan

Had I heard that quote without the name Luke Bryan at the end of it, I would’ve thought it came from the mouth of Christopher McCandless. I can’t think of anyone who followed their dreams with as much determination and ambition as him. He exceeded dreaming, once he put a dream in his head, he then made a plan. He then did not allow anything or anyone to get in the way of his plan. Many may think he failed because he did not make it back home, but he did. As David Korn said. “Perhaps our degree of willingness to appreciate the intensity of his devotion to his dreams determines whether we care more about his peace or more about his deathbed.”

It really doesn’t matter how anyone feels or has to say about what Chris did. Only opinion that matters is his own. He was satisfied with his life and the decisions he made. He did everything for himself and put himself before anyone else. Many may call him selfish but at the end of the day he was happier in the wild than he ever was in his life. Why? Because he finally did what he wanted and started living to please himself and no one else. A lot of people will say he failed because he died before he made it home, this is not true. I agree with Jessica Robbins who said “He was home because he had found
his happiness.” It’s hard for people to follow their heart and find true happiness in life. This is because we have so many things holding us back from doing what we really want. However, Chris gave up everything he had, and he had a lot, to find happiness in his life. For this, he is a true inspiration of mine.

I could not agree more with Rebecca LaMarche when she said “Christopher McCandless saw the world in black and white, good and bad, right and wrong, rather like a child does.”. One thing children have that one could never get back is their innocence. I believe that Christopher never lost his innocence because of the childlike mindset he had. Much like a child, you never knew what he was thinking or what he was going to do. He was one to think before acting. He would “go with the flow”. He allowed himself to do whatever he believed would make him happy and get him to where he wanted to be.

There are a lot of different adjectives one could use to describe Christopher McCandless. Dreamer, is not one of them. A dreamer is a person who dreams or is dreaming. He had fulfilled all his dreams. He had nothing left for him to hope to achieve. For this, his name will forever go on and his story will continue to inspire so many more people like myself across the world when they hear his story.
