Starvation. I think that has been clearly proven.

The true fact is that Chris McCandless ("Alex Supertramp") died from the poisonous plants that lead to starvation and other medical illnesses. He misread the book that he had on "Edible Plants" and didn't realizes that what he truely ate was indeed poisonous and lead him to symptoms including starvation and something with his blood stream, which lead him to his death.

This reply is for GoNorth and 1098920, Chris McCandless in fact did not die from starvation.. While out in Alaska living in the Magic Bus Chris went out to find some food for himself, while doing so he came upon a berry shrub. After scanning and the shrub to make sure it wasn't poisinous Chris began to eat the berry's, not to long after his stomach began to have sharp pains. He looked at his wilderness book listed with all kinds of plants only to dicover he ate the wrong berry and it had poisened him, he most likely had a long and painful death.

Chris Mccandless did not die from starvation, he stumbled apon a bush with berry's that seemed edible but turned out to be the cause of his death because the berry's were in fact poisonous. He was in the bus, low on food and supplies, not long after realizing he goes to hunt and gather food, finding this ment he could survive another day but those berry's had more in store for him...death. he became sick and died shortly after as to the berry's were extermly deadly.

You are confusing the 'story' for the real life facts, Chris died from the result of or complications of starvation, the theory behind the poisonous seeds/mould has been debunked several times.

Judging by the sudden boost in forum traffic, I have to wonder if this is a class that is using the forum as part of their class. If so, welcome and we're glad to have you. But mostly, whatever your being taught, with such authority that you're trying to correct some of the long standing members of this forum, is likely bogus.

Whatever effect poisonous plants Chris did or did not ingest may have had, the most plausible theory for his cause of death is that he simply starved to death for lack of game and available sources of carbohydrates. The overwhelming majority of evidence points to this. Krakauer's theory about the moldy seeds (with all due respect to the author) is not shared by most of the experts who have publicly commented on Chris' demise. There's certainly more than one opinion on the matter, but Krakauer having written it in his book makes it a published theory, not necessarily a fact.

Has anyone (and you all really should) read the new 'submitted papers' article written by Ron Hamilton? It is VERY telling in regard to all of our curiosities about the death of Christopher McCandless. I believe Mr. Hamilton has come the closest to the truth as we will get in this lifetime. The desciption of debilitating 'injuries' Chris experienced prior to succumbing to starvation are clearly and scientifically proven, if you will, in this article. It would behoove all of us to read Mr. Hamilton's article and 'listen' to Chris' actual words in his journal.

I think Chris Mccandless did not die from starvation, Chris came accross a bush with berry's that he thought was edible but but it turned out to be poisonous. Not knowing he was in a really harmful condition.Soon after eatting the berrys He survive another day, after that day the berry's became deadly and kill Chris.
