Chris's belt

Postby Aria92 » Wed Dec 08, 2010 8:41 pm

Il mio nome è Arianna, e io sono italiano (mi dispiace per il mio terribile inglese !!!!)
Amo la storia di Chris, e ho una domanda ...
Nella cintura di Chris, qual è il significato della sigla TCD?
Grazie a tutti

I too wonder who the initials TCD reference. Does anyone have any speculation on who that may be? That is one of many questions I have about Chris McCandless, as I just read the old book. I was interested in learning more about him and found this website.

I had already been thinking about this question as well, but didn't find any answer. Is it a person or something else? If the stuff on the belt is in chronological order, it must refer to something that happened between the end of February and July 1991. However there are very few journal entries from that period. So this will probably remain a mystery.

Jon Krakauer apparently had no clue what "TCD" meant. After Chris buried his camera and ruined it, he stopped writing in a journal. All we know is what he wrote Jan and Wayne about. I wonder if there isn't some facet to the story that is completely unknown.

This is an excellent question!

I guess I'd give an educated guess of Technology Cutoff Date?

Great ideas.

These letters can really mean a lot of things. It could also be the name of the casino he worked at or so.
Anyway, as he didn't write "TCD", but "T.C.D.", in the same way he had written his own initials (C.J.M.) into the belt, chances are it's about a person. Perhaps a girl? Any 20 year old Supertramp son or daughter out there? ;)
