krakauernotwriting: Carine McCandless informed me a few hours ago that the bus where her beloved brother Chris McCandless lived and died in the summer of 1992 was lifted out of the Alaska bush this morning by a Chinook military helicopter, placed on a flatbed trailer, and trucked to an undisclosed location for "safe storage." Personally, it's very disappointing, having always wanted to visit the bus. I know people will say it is in the interest of safety, but I believe it to be quite overblown. Probably more people are rescued hiking in Denali on a regular basis than at the bus, but it tends to get more media attention. It feels like a desecration.
