If Chris had been female, it would've happened differently

Postby OpheliasNightmare » Mon Dec 29, 2014 4:46 am

Hitchhiking across the US in the 1990s wasn't safe for anyone, especially not women. And a female would have had trouble finding day laborer work. She would've been pressured to marry right after college. And she would've been in danger in a shelter or on the streets at night. There are so many out there who prey on women.

Or am I just reciting what I've been taught by society to keep me subdued?

I say this because from childhood (before Chris's journey) I've so often wondered what it would be like to do exactly what he did, shedding an entire life and childhood and start out with nothing but the clothes on my back, a backpack, my mind, and my free spirit. The doubts always creep up and tell me it is impossible for a woman to live such a life.
