i just was in palm springs this past week, sitting on the computer after a day of outdoor activities, and all of a sudden the thought of Salvation Mountain hit me.
i looked it up, and it was only an hour-ish away! that next day i got up early and drove there. it is just like it is in the movie. the big "RV Camp" city aka the Slabs, and the Mountain itself (made out of over 60,000 gallons of adobe clay!) was absolutely incredible. a true slice of Heaven on Earth. Leonard Knight wasn't there, he has been sick lately and is living somewhere in Niland, California (the same town where the Mountain is). not one person was there when i arrived, however like 7 people showed up later. they were working on the railroads nearby and came by on their ATV's and cars.
it is like 50 feet high, and has many little clay huts behind it. absolutely stunning. i could spend hours there. ..
has ANYONE been to Salvation Mountain? any stories you care to share?
if not, go! it is on Beal Road in Niland, California. (you can't miss it)
