The parental attitude noted in this op-ed, the idea that a kid will turn out perfect if his/her life is micromanaged down to hypoallergenic socks, is choking the life out of our society. Young artists are told that art is a waste of time, especially when there's Wall Street and Silicon Valley to conquer, therefore the arts is withering on the vine in this country, with 40% of music being "catalog sales" (already existing stuff), because no kids are allowed to experiment with music. Kids are taught to see other people not as people but as obstacles that stand in the way of one's own success. And what of the future CM's? Are they having the life crushed out of them by destructive parenting? Will America end up as another Nazi Germany, with the "imperfect" sent off to die in the gas chambers lest they impede the "deserved successes" of people raised to be snowplows? I feel like puking. How sad for our civilization, that kids are no longer able to feel empathy.
