Since all of us can understand the impulses behind running away from home and deliberately dropping off the face of the earth, I decided to post this. More info can be had by going to the York Daily Record at ydr.com and searching for the words "five children". The local paper said that the woman ran away from home at 16 in 1993 and was presumed dead, in fact her family had her declared legally dead in 2004 to settle an estate that named her as an heir. All she said when found is that the children "belonged" to her and a black man she was living with, who is related to her via an unrelated marriage. She also said that she followed a religion "similar" to Islam, and was wearing a burqa-like robe when found.

Other than that, the cops don't know anything, except that they lived in a falling down Victorian townhouse without electricity, running water, or plumbing, and seem to have lived in just one room of that house. Only the male was seen, apparently hiding the children and his "wife" away in the house, similar to how Afghans lived under the Taliban. The woman said that she wished to hide from her family for a reason she's not divulging. Other than that, the family has clammed up, including the kids. It's a very odd case, but I think we can at least understand what would drive somebody to do such a thing. It's possible that the black man brainwashed her, and that she did this out of that. The kids will need to have official birth certificates made if they are to have any hope of living a regular life-without a BC and a social security number, the only option available is scavenging or crime to earn a living.
