Questions Unanswered...

I've read the book.
I've been to the bus more than once.
I've seen the movie.
I've listened to the audio book. (and have taken notes while doing so)
I've seen the documentary by R. Lamouth
I've seen the 20/20 Tv show segments.
I've read the articles.
I've written about my own experience on the Stampede Trail for the first time years ago.
It's been nearly 5 years for me.
Yet,
Still I wonder.
I still have questions. Answers are yet to be found and some may never reveal themselves.

Do YOU have questions?
Care to share them?

Carine McCandless has a written a book that is due to be released (according to Amazon) on November 11th, 2014. She has recently released a book trailer for it which can be found here: http://youtu.be/ooHi1VpKXX0

What do you expect to find in this book? Do you think there will be answers to these questions that remain?

Will her new book bring forth new questions?

I'd like to hear from Carine if all of Chris's photos have been published.
Also her opinion of why Chris didn't do more to effect a rescue?
And, why didn't Carine use Chris's backpack when she hiked to the bus last summer?

Husky,
Those are legit questions. If you ever get an opportunity to hear Carine speak, I highly recommend you do so. She speaks about some of these things.
As far as the backpack question goes, I'd like to ask you, would you take it on that hike?
Me, I'd leave it at home to eliminate the risk of losing or damaging it.
From what I read, Walt and Billie have the pack and not Carine.
Anyway, check her website out, it usually lists her future speaking engagements. You won't be disappointed.

The guy who found the pack sent it and the wallet and money to Carine. After looking at the 20/20 video it's pretty apparent that Carine is totally estranged from her parents. So I don't think she would have given the pack to them. I think I would have used it on the hike back to the bus if I were her if it fit adequately... just as a gesture of some kind.

Just my opinion, but that pack is in no condition to actually be used anymore. If you packed it I think you'd blow out the bottom. Lots of UV damage and dry rot. It might still be useable, but I suspect the second you started trying to synch the compression straps it would all be over. Remember that after Chris had it, it spent a number of years hanging up outside of Will Forsberg's cabin before it got to Carine. Weather wasn't kind to it it would seem.

The pack looks like it's still in pretty good shape in the pictures of it.

In her book she says that her parents were threatening legal action to get the pack and wallet. Did she tell you if she still has it?

Having seen the movie and just finished the book, I'd like to know more about Chris's boyhood and college years and how he got interested in serious hiking. My mountaineering friends generally have started with hunting or fishing or camping with their families and then in teen years doing longer outdoor treks with Scouts or environmental groups and eventually moving up to organizations like the Appalachian Mountain Club. The book and the movie don't shed much light on how Chris fell in love with the wilderness. OK, he read a lot, but I think it would take more than reading Thoreau to get motivated to undertake cross-country tramping. I'd also like to know what he studied in college, what was his major, did he have any career goals at all, what impressions he made on other Emory students. We get this impression of Chris being a loner at times, and very sociable at other times. All in all, I'm still trying to figure out what made him tick. Perhaps Carine's book will provide me with some of the answers.

Data linked questions are not newly introduced. They have been there all along.

I will leave the explanation of linked questions to anyone who would volunteer.
