what if Chris survived his alaskan adventure... what do you think he'd be up to today, in his early 40's?

i'd imagine he'd still be an avid, and wiser, traveler who would appreciate the company of others more. he loved reading, so maybe he would write a book on his travels, do volunteer aid-work in africa (he took all those african history classes!), who knows?

ideas?

I deff think he would have written several books by now. And likely still in the road, but with a friend or two :)

I think he would be actively working to undermine the superficiality of today's world. I mean, in Chris's time there was no Facebook or iGarbage or even cell phones, and the internet was a military run network of research sites that didn't allow in outsiders. Now everybody has to be connected to everybody else via smartphones all the time, and Facebook is the most popular website on earth and all it is is collecting "friends" and being superficially popular. I think Chris would be so angry that he'd go the way of the Unabomber and try to undermine the "system" at every opportunity and maybe live as an outlaw to do it. I hate to think that Chris would become a so-called "domestic terrorist" and be hunted as an outlaw like Jesse James or Butch Cassidy were, but I really don't see him doing anything else, I mean he would be so ANGRY at the government trying to control all our lives and the ubiquitousness of computers and smartphones and people needing their electronic tethers and their drug fixes all the time that he'd totally go underground and possibly lead a network of rebels to fight the system. I mean, we do have militias and the hacktivist group Anonymous but they all lack a charismatic leader, well Chris could be that leader, and lead millions to destroy the system. Anybody remember the movie Total Recall, and how the Martians followed an enigmatic rebel leader named Kuato? Well, Chris would be a real life Kuato, the mysterious rebel leader who spearheads the movement to take back our lives from govt thugs. Or maybe Commandante Marcos of the Zapatistas would be a better, real life, example.

i think he would go around to places talking about his experience living in out there. Sharing what he had to go through and the struggles.

I would think that he would have learned a lesson (say if he was found on deaths row and found last second) maybe go back to see the people that had changed his trip and share his adventures with them. Chris would probably have written a book about his adventures and his near death experience. Lastly I think that Chris would have gone back to his parents, apologize for him basically betraying them and ask for forgiveness from them for the mistakes that he had made. I think he would go to finish his schooling and basically have to start over again(find a job to get him a vehicle because his parents probably don't want to give him a car because of his "stunt" that left them in misery)

Had he been alive today, he might grow up and actually learned of what he did was somewhat very suicidal. He could of written an autobiography about his adventures and be a wealthy and popular person who went out to Alaska and survived for a few months in a bus. He would have been asked to come to many different interviews and Q&A's where he would answer many questions involving what he did and how he got to Alaska and found the bus. The one answer he wouldn't answer is why he burned his money and left his car. Since burning his own money was his own decision that he could regret doing it eventually as that money could have helped him along the way to Alaska.

i think that chris McCandelles would have gone on gotten followers through the support of social sites, started a movement that would have gotten support from all corners of life. The movement would have been massive and fuelled with the recent events of people camping out in New York and the recent information that the U.S government has been watching people stating a massive movement like the 70s and the hippies movement. after Chris is gone there would be extremists left to lead the groupe turning it into a home grown terrorist groupe. forgeting the principlas that chris left behind.

I think that if Chris were alive today he would maybe have gone back into civilization but also found a way to be separated from it at the same time. I think that Chris had alone time that was very important to him. I bet he would go back and see his sister Carine and they would keep up with their memories and such. He may take certain simple jobs but not live in a very big house and live modestly. I'm sure he would meet up with at least one person from his journeys.

If chris was alive today, he would be an idol to many people. Chris believed in living life the way you intend on it, not societies way...
