What if Chris had crossed the river...
Re: What if Chris had crossed the river...
Yeah that's the way the movie and to some extent the book would have us believe, sadly we'll never know his true state at the time he tried to cross the river, i think we'd all agree that it's a Damn shame he didn't make it!!

That's right. However I believe he must have been in quite good shape psychologically, because up to the day he left the bus, he had stayed there by choice. So if he hadn't liked it there before, he would have left earlier. He probably thought that he'd just stay around in the wilderness as long as le likes and then gets back to see people again as soon as he feels ready. And he ALMOST managed to do so. It's only when he realized that he couldn't just cross the river as he had done in late April that his stay "in the wild" became unvoluntary and the whole thing sadly turned into some kind of trap.

The Call of the Wild Documentary by Ron Lamothe shows a couple of pictures of chris when he was in college as well as some when he was in high school. Also the Iconoclasts Episode with Jon Krakauer and Sean Penn shows some photos too.
