[quote="pezar"] In my view what Chris did BEFORE he went to Alaska is more important.

Chris represents freedom.

I have both read the book and seen the movie, and now furthered my understanding of Chris's travels through this website, but never wanted or tried to retrace his travels. (Have had my own version of Chris' journey which I may share in a different post). I agree with what pezar says above--and think that it was best captured in the incredible scene from the movie in which he decides to kayak the Colorado with no experience, training, or guide. And we've been earlier told that he has a fear of water! Anyone that has seen, swum in or rafted/kayaked on that river knows its tremendous power and force. A person brave--and crazy--enough to tackle that force of nature with just his chutzpah is one determined SOB. I'm not and never will be a Chris, but I understand and respect the forces which drove him.
