with a simple google search of TCD I found this website http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/TCD
it lists a lot of words that begin with T C and D and the one that makes the most sense to me is "Teller Cash Dispenser" since he worked at a casino he was probably dealing with money and dispensed cash to people and that was his job title
Now here is a Picture of the buckle end of the belt http://yfrog.com/h4o2cmj
I grabbed my book and thumbed to the part where Krakauer describes whats on the belt and he says everything on the belt in order and on the belt chris wrote VEGAS in the picture you can see the end of it GAS and directly after VEGAS comes TCD and on the belt there are no . separating the letters. So either its the name of the casino or his job title "Teller Cash Dispenser"
Wow lots of info but I feel really accomplished letting everyone know this.
Chris's belt
Re: Chris's belt
Thanks a lot for the belt-picture. Ok, so Krakauer didn't write it correctly in the book.
However it could still be initials of a person and these won't be found in the acronyms list.
But there are also some funny things in the list. I prefer:
Target Completion Date
Tons of Cane per Day
Tentative Classification of Defects

It is sometimes quietly mentioned and quickly forgotten. If you have access to his collection of pics and ID's you will see he that he had to get licensed as a food worker.
The Casino Days?
Although I have to say that "Tried Calling Dad" is quite amusing. lol Good stuff MadMax.
Steve-
How do you know about all of this? I don't recall seeing this anywhere before. Do you have access to his pics and ID's or something?
Re: Chris's belt

Check out yourself by searching for "Vegas" here: http://www.99chan.in/lit/src/Into_The_Wild-_John_Krakauer.pdf (or here for the casino version: http://www.chipbrown.net/articles/intowild.htm)
