I have read the book and watched the movie, But there has always been a character that i cannot find Bob/Rainey anyone know his real name or if he even exsisted?

is name in reall ive is Brian Dierker... he was on eof the stunt coordinators on Into The Wild... they trying to find a character for rainey, and emile looked at Brian Dierker, and thought he would be perfect! hes never acted in anything before or after into the wild :0 hes just a regular hippie d00d

I also wondered why they changed the name for the movie, but it seems that Bob was the real name of Jan's boyfriend at the time. At least Krakauer didn't write anything about having changed the name (as he did for Ron Franz).
Anyway, he did definitely exist, because as far as I know, the stories told in the book are all true (which is not the case for everything in the movie), and Jan Burres also talked about this former boyfriend in an interview:

oh haha yes your right! i thought he was asking who the actor was in real life, but yes Bob is the real person that Brian Dierker played. and Go North, maybe they wanted a more unique, hippie-like name for "Bob", and came up with Rainey

im not sure bro, if its not in the book or the in "call of the wild" documentary then i dont know man maybe they didnt say his last name for personal reasons..
