Favorite Scene??

Postby naturelover24 » Mon Dec 13, 2010 9:49 pm

I have 2:

1. when Chris jumps off the cliff... music kicks in... comes out of water... extreme joy on his face. purity :)

2. When he is by the magic bus and looking at everything and has tears on his face, totally stunning :)

i liked in the start, when the camera pans in, and you see chris with his hood up, barely visible through the trees. that and the scene where he loads up his datsun and gets on the highway in atlanta.

Favorite scenes?
All the scences with Emile Hirsch unshaved.

No, seriously, there are indeed a lot of great scenes:

1. When he steps into the wild at the beginning, crossing the Tek and so on (music “Long nights”)
2. When he finds the bus, moves in, explores the surroundings, writes his stuff on wood (music “Best unsaid”)
3. The discussion with Wayne in the bar about Alaska, the wild and “Society”
4. On the train (“King of the road”)
5. Salvation Mountain
6. When he leaves the bus and walks back to the Tek (music “No ceiling”)
7. When he wakes up in the bus with nausea – not a nice scene, but really impressing.
8. The very end, when the photo of the real Chris comes up

And that's just the very best ones. Actually, the whole movie is still my favorite one. :D

That's actually one of the few scenes I don't like. First of all, it's too long. And then it always seems to me like a deal between Sean Penn and the parents. Something like: You are allowed to make the movie if you include a scene persuading the spectators that our son had finally forgiven us (which he might have done, maybe, or maybe not; in any case he didn't leave any message for them, so no one will ever know).
Well, that's my personal impression regarding that scene, but I might be completely wrong, of course.

No, I don't. No kids - but parents. And I know how difficult it can be to forgive. Of course I can also imagine very well that in that extreme situation Chris missed his family and all that (including his sister who is not in the scene). But still that particular scene seems somehow artificial to me.
But as I said, this is only my personal impression or feeling.

Thanks. ;)
Just one more thing about the parents, as it might seem as if I had a totally negative image of them. Actually I (like all of us here) never met any of these guys, neither Chris nor any other member of his family; we only know the things that have been published about them. And from what I understood, there are indeed some things I don’t like at all about the way his parents behaved. But still I really believe that they must have loved their son in one way or another, otherwise he would not have become such a courageous and self-assured person, with so much hope and confidence in his heart.
