Has anyone ever heard about the author John Steinbeck's name being hidden somewhere within the Into the Wild book???

Never heard that before. Why don't you go to the Amazon website and do a "Look inside book" search, typing Steinbeck and see if anything comes back?

Thanks for the suggestion. The Amazon search was one of my initial efforts. I have also gone to the extent of downloading it to a Kindle and searching for the name that way. I know Krakauer is a big John Steinbeck fan so it is a possibility but so far I have not located anything. There is influences of "Travels with Charley" in some of McCandless' writings but that is about it related to Steinbeck. I am not sure if this rumor will turn out to be true...
