[quote="magnet48"]I think that's the significant thing for me: his choice to live in the center of nowhere, by himself.I have been so blown away by both book&movie. And I'm a 62-year-old woman.Chris's spirit & story have impacted me & I have to say, have actually changed my life [...]I mean my interior life: his story has changed my heart, toward myself as well as toward others.
I would like to imagine that the necessary hero comes along for a particular group of people,or at a particular point in time.Chris is that person for me [...]

I think that is the same for the most of people on this forum, I mean, Chris has changed the life of others, and sometimes I think that probably he would be very surprise about this...but is just my idea...and you know what? I think that now he can have a lot of love from us, maybe I can wrong but I think that during his life, he had real needs of love and although he had difficult relationship with his parents I think that he felt the heavy Walt's situation with his first family, on the own shoulders, probably he felt in fault because he had more opportunities than his brothers and I think that he has really suffered a lot for that...and probably he has thought that they didn't love really him. Now we know that they love him.
So if a lot of troubles come from the money, which is the first solution? Obviously, rid of it, and restart a new life...I can go ahead but is not important what I'm thinking about. I say that from his to restart are borned a lot of restarts in the our life. So Thank you Chris, our little brother, we love you and we (me and the people that think like me) hope that our love can comes where are you now beside GOD.

The other night I was outside walking and thought how awesome it would be to run away and start all over. I had an impulse to just start running until I couldn't run anymore and then worry about where I would stay, etc. It's an intense feeling of wanderlust, which everyone is effected by. He just decided to act on it.

He did something so out of the norm, like what society thinks is weird, and just did it to get a different perspective on life. It opened some doors to thoughts that he had. Living on his own was so peaceful I think and that’s why I would never want to leave ( if I had a never ending supply of real food). I don’t think anyone now would drop everything and go into the wild, not weighing the cons and pros. Its an eye opener and people who have deep soul searching should consider doing it in the wild

Chris was very brave and had the determination to do it. He became very prepared in the beginning before he went out into the wilderness. I honestly could not survive at least 3 days in the wilderness. The weather would be really cold in the winter and I would get bored really fast. The food would also be one of my main problems. I am a picky eater and eating things like that would not be in my interest.

that is so true y'all!!

it definitely takes a lot of "guts" to get out of the norm. we are bred from birth to comply with the rules of control. from elementary all the way up to high school we are brainwashed and indoctrinated to believe that college is the best path in life, when in reality, we are just doing it all over again. we never really learn anything, we just memorize useless dates and facts. they are marketing us. the government is training us to be slaves. out of all the interesting topics to study when we are young, and they condense everything, every topic on EARTH, every thought, into FIVE subjects. ridiculous.

they also brainwash the youth with evolution, but thats a whole 'nother topic! :)

birth. school. work. death.

DESTROY! :) live in love :)

Chris' life style was really interesting, I don't think I would go to the extent that he went to just to get to Alaska, he left home, lost the car, and burned his money. To me he had a really interesting personality that always kept me wondering, he would always decline money or clothes for survival when he needed it most, he acted like he never needed help when he could of used it. I don't know anyone who lives this kind of life style, tramping around for years, but I'm sure their out there. I don't think I would be able to handle this life style, it would probably be scary and mostly miserable.

I believe he ventured into the wild because he was trying to escape his life and leave all of his problems behind. Also he was a very caring person so he thought he would be generous by giving everything he owned to the less fortunate. Some individuals might believe he only did this because he was trying to be kind and figured he didn't need that much stuff/ money and he would need to get used to living off the bare minimum. But personally I think he gave all of his possessions away because he believed he didn't need them where he was going, and if he did return, that he wouldn't need them because his life would never be the same.

I think that a Chris did extremely well from going to rich to poor. Although he got everything handed to him, he knew how to fend for himself. Chris did not take advantage of anything. He was a hard worker, smart, talented, and independent. He chose to be on his own or be one with the wild.

In my point of view I think Chris made a very astonishing decision. Not very much people who've been given everything in their lives can do what Chris did. He had everything he ever wanted, a good education, money, family and friends, yet he made his own decisions and took action in his own hands. He knew what he was getting himself into, yet he still choose to take that path knowing the dangers that would come his way.

I think he chose this lifestyle because it was his dream to live this way. He didn't want to get married and have a job right away, he wanted more. He was young and wanted to explore. He wanted to start living the way he wanted not the way his family wants him to. Chris was finally free. It was time for his parents to let him go.

I truly believe Chris is strong and smart but i think he lives on impulse. which is very dangerous and honestly I think thats why he died. Chris apparently thought of his death but someone who thinks things through would have thought of how their passing would affect others. I can honestly say I don't think Chris knows what its like to lose someone. By losing someone I mean in life wise, as if someone were to die. Theres a pain and a whole that cant be fixed.
