Re: ANYONE HITCHHIKED????

I hate to say it but I don't see myself ever picking up a hitchhiker. Hope that doesn't get me a firm lambasting on a website devoted to the example of Chris McCandless but I just feel it too risky. I do wish anyone wanting to try it - either the actual thumbing or picking up a hitchhiker the best o...

Re: Have You Been Able To Find Books As Good as This??

I read both "A Walk Across America" by Peter Jenkins and "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat-Moon and enjoyed them both. This topic has got my mind percolating a little. I just remembered a book I enjoyed about 6-7 years ago called "The Kindness of Strangers: Penniless Acr...

Re: Is It Still Possible?

Thanks for the reply GoNorth. :) I have read the book but forgot about that part. Kind of incredible what the train security "bulls" can get away with apparently. I mean Chris was in the wrong on being on the train but there's a line one crosses (in my opinion) from protecting or securing ...

Re: Is It Still Possible?

I bet it's not as easy to ride on freight trains nowadays as it was back when Chris did it 20 years ago....? How in the world did he ever manage to do that?!!! Takes some real cleverness and daring to do such a thing. I was wondering if the scene from the movie of "Into the Wild" where the...

Re: The new Book

Yes! I purchased my copy this morning off Amazon.com. I am really looking forward to reading it. It's kind of unusual the way the Amazon page is set up to sell the Back To The Wild book. One must click on "these sellers" or "see all buying options" or "1 new from $24.99"...

Re: The new Book

The new book "Return To The Wild" was to be made available to purchase on Amazon.com today but it's still not showing up their website.

I wonder why?
