Re: why not nature?

Why didn’t he decide to die among nature? I don't think he "decided" to die at all. He probably knew that his chances of survival were becoming slimmer and at some point expected to die out there, but I can't imagine that he had really given up hope before he actually quit breathing. And ...

That one's old anyway. I mentioned this ages ago, see http://www.christophermccandless.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4089&p=5750&hilit=142#p5750 (at the end of my post of Apr 23, 2011) :P

Re: Christopher's diary

Yes, that page is one of the best things about the "Back to the wild" book. :D However, if you are looking for the journal Chris kept during his travels before heading for Alaska, I don't think the complete diary has been published anywhere. You can find quite a few quotes of it in the &qu...

Re: Jon Krakauers article in the New Yorker

These seeds of hyperbole and hype are ones he planted to dismiss the possibility that Chris was a combination of arrogance, hubris, and willful ignorance. That's exactly what I don't get. Even without the seeds I don't think Chris would seem arrogant etc. Or - for those who like to hate the guy any...

Re: Jon Krakauers article on the New Yorker

following the "fault of pot(ato) seed" Something I never understood is that everybody seems to be sure that Chris was right by blaming the seeds. Maybe he just thought they were the cause, but he was wrong? How could he be so sure after all? that critical thinking has been pushed to the b...

Re: A few details rarely, if ever, mentioned...

It takes exactly 4 hours to walk from the Tek back to the Bus. Four hours. Chris knew this. He knew it wasn't a "hop back" to the bus. I don't think for one second he took a look at the Tek and decided to just turn around and go right back to the Bus he had said goodbye to hours earlier. ...

Re: I F***ing HATE CHRIS MCCANDLESS

Chris may as well have died scaling a mountain without climbing shoes, freezing to death without a coat, driving 150 on a curvy road, getting smashed by an 18-wheeler crossing the highway without looking, falling out of a boat without a life vest, or getting fatally bitten while casually handling r...

Re: Difference between Book and Film

The book is more like a documentary including the author's thoughts and interpretations. There's a lot more background information on Chris's past, his charachter and his family. So it's definitely worth reading the book if you are interested in the life of CM!

Re: Chris in alaska

Welcome to this forum. That's a lot of questions to which you will easily find the replies (and much more) in Krakauer's book. It's really worth reading, as it contains so much more background information.
