Re: Have you been to the Magic Bus?
Actually I was kind of thinking of putting a list like this on the Hiking The Stampede Trail website. Would you have any objection to that? I don't want to steal anyone's idea. Oh... and I've been there. Along with: Jenna Halfacre, Scott Ashmore, Jeremy Egger, Marcy Egger, Tristan Denoncour, Britany...

Re: The bus is getting pulled
There's a lot of people in Alaska, and especially in Healy, that I know would like to see that bus get pulled. There's reporters, like that darn Dermot Cole of the Fairbanks News Miner, that flap their mouth about it nonstop. I hate to say it, but unless something happens to protect it, I think some...

Re: An -Alternative- method to crossing the Teklanika River
I have talked to a guy in Fairbanks that saw my site once. He rents these things out. 30-45 dollars a day depending on how long you rent for. He's renting the Alpaca rafts. You can find him at http://www.alaskapackrafts.com/ email: info@alaskapackrafts.com or call: 907 687-5544 Pack rafts are awesom...

Re: Woman dies trying to cross the Teklanika.
You make a good point I hadn't really considered. Still, the first cable remained up for a long time before 'hunters cut it down.' I'm also wondering where that came from because I had heard before that it was hunters too, but who would admit to that? Either way though, I can't imagine the cable its...

Re: The Christopher McCandless Documentary
At the point that I saw Penn's film in 2007 (I think I went to the first showing at the Century 16 Theater in Anchorage) I had not read most of the book. I worked at a book store in the Talkeetna Mountains run by the Alaska Natural History Association in the summers of 2003 through 2005 and I had br...

Re: Helpful Advice And What You'll Need To Get To The Magic
When it comes to water, I've always just used a filter everywhere I go in Alaska. A small filter, like the MSR Hyperflow, is a great choice. It pumps super fast and it's only shortcoming is that it does not have a charcoal element (which improves the taste of the water.) Then again, neither do table...

Re: Best time to hike to the bus
I wouldn't worry about the trail being dry. That's not really going to happen, and if it does it means the river will be plenty high because it will probably be hot. I'd aim for late May/early June and just plan on having wet feet. Bring lots of socks and dry your boots by the fire each night if you...

Re: Woman dies trying to cross the Teklanika.
I have actually had the opportunity to talk with Claire (the woman who drown's) mother. Her idea, and I think that it's a good one, is to simply construct some kind of bridge or cable trolley over the river. To add to that, there was already such a trolley at one point. It would seem to me that any ...

Re: Does anyone else know what's inside the old coffee can?
After seeing this thread I went and checked my photos. I took a ton inside the bus but I never opened the can. Guess I'll have to hike back out there to find out. That'll be summer of 2012 though so if anyone else feels like spilling the beans I'm really curious now. Wait... it's not beans is it?

Singapore Man Rescued past Bus 142
Hi, as many of you already know, I run a site at http://www.pathfinderalaska.com/stampedetrail about hiking the Stampede Trail. Consequently I follow it very closely in the news. Recently I spotted this article in the Fairbanks Daily News Miner: http://www.newsminer.com/bookmark/11291021 It is about...
