Re: Am I crazy for this?

I also wanted to do a longer trip but realized I wasnt ready, so I did a 3 day backpacking trip solo. It was my first trip backpacking trip ever. It was fun and I learned a lot. My parents werent that nervous about me going, but they would have been able to get me if something went wrong. Its unders...

Re: Kayaking the Colorado River documentary

It shows both parts, but focuses more on the upper section of the river, probably because the lower section is less scenic since it has a lot of development. About 20 minutes of it is about the area in Arizona and Mexico.

Kayaking the Colorado River documentary

I found a really cool documentary about a couple of guys who kayak down the entire Colorado River. All I had to say was "WOW." The scenery was amazingly beautiful and I cant wait to go out there and see it for myself some day. It shows the area that Chris went down, and although it...

Re: The Holy Economy

It may seem confusing why I posted this here. I was just kind of ranting about what I see in society. But I also wanted to know people's thoughts on how our society works and how they fit into it.

Re: To pick up hitchhikers... or not to pick up hitchhikers.

The problem is you have to make a judgment of that person very quickly.... unless you don't mind staring at them for little bit and thinking about who they are. I don't drive, but I would be very careful about picking up someone if I did. It seems like it might be more dangerous for the person givin...

Re: Retrace His Footsteps

I'm planning a trip this summer too, I just don't know where I want to go yet. I would either go north to Canada or out west. [I live in the northeast] I want to visit some of the places Chris went, the Salton Sea and the Gulf of California sound really cool, but there's so many places to go....but ...

The internet and travelling

I saw some posts on here where people said it is getting harder to travel the way Chris did. That might be true, people might be less likely to pick up hitchhikers, it's harder to hop trains, and police are stricter. But there is a huge benefit from having the internet. We have access to maps, forum...

Re: The Holy Economy

I cannot be sure what drives whom. I can see in my modest 'world' that most people just want MORE, I don't know why. I think people who excessively want material things dont really know what they want in life. And if they dont seriously question what they want in life, they will be confused, so in ...

Re: The green onion effect...

Being poisoned by something is terrifying if you dont know how dangerous the toxin is. I was poisoned after eating a wild edible plant. [the book said it was safe :x ] I thought I had misidentified it and was going to die. It ended up being minor but now I always do internet research before eating a...

The Holy Economy

Politicians in America talk about the economy like its some sacred thing that must be protected at all costs. They encourage us to spend our money, as if by doing that we are contributing to the greater good. But our economic system is based around profit, not progress. Profit is created by supply a...
