Re: Please help: Missing person
The page says that he was sighted in Indio, near Salton City. Chris camped there, and it's possible Matt is headed to Anza-Borrego. According to the page, the weather in the desert has been colder than normal. I keep thinking of how Chris abandoned the Datsun at Detrital Wash, near Lake Mead. Has an...

Re: Visiting Bus 142 is an insult to Chris
I can see your point. Chris may have gone off into the taiga unprepared, and died as a result. Chris seems to have wanted to "experience" Alaska, but he had never been there, his main sources of info were Jack London novels and a brief visit to Fairbanks about four years before dying in th...

Re: into the wild in scool classes
I don't trust the school system, to present Chris's story (or any true story) accurately. I read Catcher in the 11th grade, and the whole approach seemed to me, what I can remember of it, was that Holden was misguided and a rebel without a cause who deserved pity. I absolutely HATED literature analy...

Was "the road" Chris's anthropology project?
Here's an idea that I haven't seen before. Chris apparently trained in anthropology at Emory. Upon graduating from college, an anthropologist will usually pick a group of people and live among them, doing a long, multi-year study on their way of life. Anthropologists have lived with Stone Age tribes...

Re: the sens of "Iris Fucyu"
He gave his correct name and SSN on that one. Why? You mean, why did he first not write his real name and number etc. and later did it? Well, as usually, only Chris himself could (possibly) answer this question. Ok, we could speculate: maybe the second time he trusted Wayne more than before. On the...

Re: Anyone heard of the "Freeman movement"?
I have not heard of "Freeman movement" but when you mentioned St Augustine I perked right up because I am 20 miles from there. I do know of the type of "people" the author talks about. These people are the ones you don't see walking around begging. Instead of running away from h...

Re: Anyone heard of the "Freeman movement"?
Wedelen, there's a post on survivalistboards.com about these people, search that board for "Rainbow Gatherings". The Rainbow website is welcomehere.org, I had it wrong. The people who visited the gathering in Ocala from Survivalist Board weren't too impressed, they said that people had tal...

Re: the sens of "Iris Fucyu"
Where did he write this? On some kind of form he had to fill in for his work at Wayne's. It's mentioned in the book by Krakauer. I haven't seen any picture of it. Wayne had him fill in a W-4, a form required for employees in the USA to fill out so they can be taxed correctly. Wages are heavily taxe...

Re: Interesting mention in this story. See if you can find i
Inspired by Chris, I see. He may also be inspired by Evert Ruess, the desert wanderer mentioned in ITW as a Chris-like figure. As we all know, there was speculation that Chris destroyed those cabins in Alaska, although Chris was largely nonviolent and is not considered a suspect. Iron County is in S...

Re: Anyone heard of the "Freeman movement"?
Wedelen, what you are describing is what is called in the US the Sovereign Citizens. Sometimes they use the name Freemen, but the OP description didn't sound like them. Sovereign Citizens aren't homeless, they don't wander, they usually operate their own businesses that run on cash or silver/gold so...
