Re: How did you find the book? Where were you?

Howdy Steve. And a Happy New Year to you and all... I first was handed the movie version of Chris McCandless' story from my local librarian. Since then, I've read the book and the Back To The Wild versions, several times. The great irony, for me, was that 1st: the library was my source. This was a p...

Re: books which Chris read, thank you

Also on Chris' reading list: Crime and Punishment (Fyodor Dostoevsky) Moon Face (London) Brown Wolf (London) To Build A Fire (London) O Jerusalem! (L.Collins & D. Lapierre) Doctor Zhivago (Boris Pasternak) Terminal Man (Michael Crichton) Death of Ivan Ilych (Tolstoy) Education of a Wandering Man...

Re: Ultimate freedom

I THINK what was meant about "Shortly before he disappeared" ...refers to 2 summers prior to Chris' leaving after graduating college. He found out that when he was born, his father was still legally married to his first wife. I think that for 2 years, Chris had this festering wound. All th...

Re: A few more questions...

Ok, Steve, are you referring to his "Deliberate Living" comment on pg 148 of the Back To The Wild Book? And the "deliberate consciousness" comment made on Day 49, in the journal? (If so, the WIERDEST part of that is when you add the numbers involved here, you get 13!) I DID also ...

Re: A few more questions...

Steve, Seems very plausible to have had the camera shooting the last pics in quick succession. They DO look very similar. If you don't examine each one, and I think I've witnessed 3, the differences are subtle. I guess the one from the Back to the Wild Book, and 2 others online...not sure where else...

Re: A few more questions...

I really don't have any facts...but, I think the close camera shots in the movie are to bring you CLOSE to Chris, and his playful side. Free and Fun. That's what I felt @ that scene. I don't know why his camera didn't play a bigger role. Possibly because it portrays a tie with civilization? Was the ...

Re: Carine McCandless is writing a memoir...

Yes! That's why they call it 'Mother' Nature! She does teach some hard lessons, but is always forgiving...rejuvenation of forests. As far as books, movies, etc, that's all a matter of opinion. OK, Steve...I'll try this again. In "Back To The Wild', the last few pages containing Chris' journal: ...

Re: Carine McCandless is writing a memoir...

You GO Steve! I am a bit ashamed to admit I fell into the "Back To The Wild" trap! I do love the pics, and Chris' journal, however, and feel I learned more about his experience. We are all only seeking truth. I feel sorry for the 'parents' for not being in children and grandchildren's live...
