Re: some questions
He did realize the level of water in the Sushana and Teklanika. It says in Chapter 18, "He probably surmisted that if he bided his time until August, the Teklanika would subside enough to be crossed."(188) However, Chris was way too weak to leave. If he'd known about the basket, crossing t...

Re: The Holy Economy
It's true that people in America are increasingly wanting more money. Money is just a tool to get what you want. It is not bad to have money if you are using it for good. Recent research seems to indicate that the rich are less adept at reading others' emotions in comparison with uneducated and poor...

Re: Sources for Research
Hi you, Reading the Into the Wild book is probably the best source out there. The TV show 20/20 has a pretty good footage talking about Chris McCandless too. Also, the forum has some good information about him. You can tell if a web site is reliable or not is by look at the author. If the author is ...

Re: FOOD?
Chris had a lot of rice already with him. On chapter 16, he went out to a university to study up on what kind of plants he could eat. He held on to a book about plants in his backpack. He shot a lot of squirrels, spruce grouse, duck, goose, and porcupines. He gathered a lot of rose hips and lingonbe...

Re: Do you think Chris's family should have searched to find
Chris Mccandless did not want to be found. Although his parents did search for him and were terribly concern. In chapter 4, they contacted with a private investigator named Peter Kalitka, who'd done contract work for both the DIA and CIA. "Kalitka launched an extremely thorough search, chasing ...

Re: Why give away his money?
He wanted to change his life. I do know that he needs some money to keep his journey going. He would not last as long on the road without some supplies, so he took a job. He would also go somewhere to settle down for the winter till spring. Chris does not enjoy receiving free gifts, he likes working...

Re: Chris love
While Chris was at Emory, he was characterized by monomania, impatience, and unwavering self-absorption, qualities that seemed to intensify through his college years. He seemed very introverted, almost cold. It was hard for him to open up. "Mccandless seems to have been driven by a lust that su...

Re: What do you think about Chris going into the wild?
I respect what he has done. He lived months in the wild with little amount of stuff. Very few people have ever done that.
