Re: gods plan/ chris's journey

Nothing in life is a "coincidence". I believe he had a purpose on the earth.

Re: Thirteen Senses

The power of music is amazing. You can hear a song and it can take you back to when you were a child. You can remember the song playing when you had your first kiss, your first heartbreak. All the emotions can come back to you in an instant just by hearing a song. I have always loved Pearl Jam, and ...

Re: Thirteen Senses

I agree, Thirteen Senses are good, but can we please give props to the musical genius that is Eddie Vedder??? The soundtrack is haunting, beautiful, and PERFECT!

Re: Jack London - The Call of the Wild

Thanks for that insight, that's fascinating! Could very well be the inspiration, or just the validation of the way he felt- he needed to cut off his family, the last ties that bound him to what he despised in the world.

Re: A comforting experience

There are no coincidences! Look at all the people Chris has touched. How many lives are changed by his experience. Whether it inspires looking at life with a little more depth, or changing the course of one's life, the change is significant.

Re: Christopher McCandless

Mike, You are so young. Have you thought about going to China or Africa or somewhere to do humanitarian service? I know kids who have done this and it's changed their lives. You can find scholarships for these programs if you research it well online etc. Sometimes you need to get outside yourself an...

Re: Trip to the "Magic Bus"

There is a documentary, The Call of the Wild, which goes into how the bus got there-mining at the time of WWII, it was used to transport supplies, then abandoned. It's pretty interesting, a lot of facts, but lacks the passion and beauty of the movie. He really doesn't talk to a lot of the key player...

Re: Christopher McCandless

I forgot to add that I was inspired as well by the insight Chris had at the end of his journey, (well in the movie anyway) that forgiveness is the key. To accept others as they are, faults and all. I hope to think if Chris would have made it out of the wild, he would have learned how to love and acc...

Re: Christopher McCandless

Davidd I've been thinking about your post, and I think you hit it on the head. The reason Chris' story resonates with people is because many of us do "Go into the wild" in many different ways, for many different reasons. A natural human response to pain and fear is "fight or flight&qu...

Re: Christopher McCandless

Yes- I loved that quote as well! It's true, God's love for us is manifested in the beauty all around us in nature, in the re-birth of the spring every year, in the harvest and colors of the fall, in sunsets, the force and calm of the ocean, the majestic mountains-whose solid rock is to me a symbol o...
