I'm having this discussion alone. Here goes: Seems to me that if Jack London was alive now, he would have picked Chris up hitching a ride to anywhere. Maybe he would impart his unique brand of wisdom, just like everybody else did. Chris would have definitely sent London a postcard.

Chapter 2: On a wood carving discovered at the bus Chris McCandless carves the words "Jack London is King." It has nothing to do with romanticism and everything to do with wisdom.

Hitchhiking is extremely risky at the present time. If you hate the idea of being assaulted or you don't much feel like looking at the drivers gun sitting between you and him I suggest make plans with a friend, rent a car to your basic destination, then walk, that's what being in the woods is all ab...
