Hunter who discovered Chris's body
I see in the news that Gordon E. Samel, one of the moose hunters who discovered Chris's body on the bus, was shot to death by Alaskan police on Sunday. http://news.msn.com/crime-justice/into-the-wild-hunter-fatally-shot-by-police-in-alaska

Re: Pacific Crest Trai
I've never hiked it. I recently read the book "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed which was about her experiences backpacking the PCT. I enjoyed the book but it wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea. She spends much of the book talking about the loss of her mother and the end of her marriage, and just h...

Good point. Although with so much total crap and filler on the multitude of channels these days, this will surely be no worse than that.

Re: Animal Planet special on Chris (next year)
That does sound interesting. Apparently Wayne Westerberg is no longer contractually bound to not talk about Chris - as he and others in Carthage were - when Ron Lamothe shot The Call of the Wild documentary. Interesting that Animal Planet is filming this special. What does Chris' travels have to do ...

Re: is this life even FEASIBLE??
I think IF I was going to try anything like Chris did - travelling, vagabonding, whatever you want to call it - my first choice would be to do it by car. For me and my persoanl makeup, I would like the refuge a car offers me, a place to go to, sleep in when I can't find other shelter, for when it is...

Re: Travel or live in the wild?
Pezar - stupid question - but what exactly is computer repair? Computer repair entails removing viruses ("malware"), transferring data between computers, sometimes recovering data from broken hard drives, also doing laptop computer repairs like replacing parts such as screens, keyboards, a...

Re: The new Book
Are you talking about Back to the Wild? I think it is only being sold on-line through Amazon.

Re: Cryptic message
Never heard that before. Why don't you go to the Amazon website and do a "Look inside book" search, typing Steinbeck and see if anything comes back?

Re: Travel or live in the wild?
Pezar - stupid question - but what exactly is computer repair? Hey - also I happened upon a book on Amazon called "Dirt-Cheap Survival Retreat: One Man's Solution" by M.D. Creekmore. Haven't read it but it appears to be one man's account of putting a trailer on his own land. Might be worth...

Re: Teen loses legs trying to hop train
That is horrendously sad. I've never been interested in hopping freight trains but always wondered how it was done. Get on the train while it was 'parked' or as it began to move? This young girl - will always have to live with the youthful decision she made. I wonder if she and her friends were insp...
