Re: Removal of the bus

Unfortunately, local buy-in for the project, which was necessary to get ...

Re: Compiling photographs of the Magic Bus/ Fairbanks 142

@happiness_real , Carine and a team of folks including myself have organized "Friends of Bus 142" a non-profit dedicated to preserving and protecting Bus 142. As of right now it looks like it is likely headed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks's Museum of the North. As part of this effo...

Re: Bridge over the Teklanika?

Kayleigh, that appears to be the bridge over the savage river much further upstream right next to the park road, less than a mile from it on a short scenic loop that probably sees a thousand tourists a day during the summer. It's a long way from the Stampede Trail.

Re: Wayne Westerberg

Your use of the term "unabashed" makes me curious. Do you know Wayne personally or have any evidence of his abusive behavior beyond Carine's book? To be clear, I'm not doubting you, I'm just wondering if you know more of the story.

Re: Questions Unanswered...

Just my opinion, but that pack is in no condition to actually be used anymore. If you packed it I think you'd blow out the bottom. Lots of UV damage and dry rot. It might still be useable, but I suspect the second you started trying to synch the compression straps it would all be over. Remember that...

Re: Carine McCandless is writing a memoir...

Carine's book was on the shelf at the Barnes and Noble here in Anchorage the day before it was scheduled to be released. I bought it, took it home, and spent the rest of the evening reading it. From having talked to Carine on a couple of different camping trips, and heard her talk about her brother,...
