Re: So Who Has Actually Done Extensive Traveling????

While we're on the topic of hitch-hiking. . . I did my share of hitching "back in the day"--back and forth across the US several times, plus lots of regional and local trips. . . and yup, made some bad choices and had some bad things happen to me (but no, I never got drunk with my ride and...

Re: any women here??

Interesting about "stone age societies". We had in Canada Inuit people who lived traditionally (stone age)until the mid 1960s when all were finally resettled into "modern communities". . . . So is man a wilderness creature; we too strove and survived against the ice and the weat...

Re: any women here??

It would be interesting to know if there is a difference in the % of men or women that prefer an alternative lifestyle, alternative to the mainstream commercial lifestyle. Now that, I think, is an interesting question to pose. Of course, we have to start with the definition of "alternative lif...

Stilltrekker, eating the wrong mushroom can be DEADLY! The Asian communities here in California like to go mushroom hunting like they did in their home countries. There are constantly reports of SE Asians needing liver transplants because they mistook a deadly shroom for one that grows in their hom...

Re: any women here??

Well, I was intending to stay gender-neutral on this site, but this chat is just too juicy to refrain from. You go, GONORTH girl!--and I'll admit I hadn't guessed your gender from reading your earlier posts. Had my fellow forum readers guessed mine? Perhaps not, since I haven't espoused a passion fo...

Re: when y'all traveled, did you go alone??

Good question. . . for me, many answers. Serious hiking I've only done in a group with experienced guides (and we still managed to go three days up the wrong fork of a river!). Hitch-hiking was always alone or with a dog (which helped more than it hurt getting rides) but I had some regrettable exper...
